As sunrise brightens the eastern sky, the smith walks into his shop.
Grabbing a handful of paper from the bin he wads it up into a tight ball and puts a match to it.
He places the burning ball in the middle of the forge and cranks the blower a little, making sure it is burning well.
Taking a scoop of coal from the bin he starts pouring some over the wad of burning paper.
For a while he cranks the blower into the fire to getting it going well.
The smoldering coal begins to let off a thick cottony smoke.
"This is why I named my shop the Smoky Forge" he thinks.
Bright orange and red fire begin to replace the white smoke.
While the coal fire is getting up to heat, he can start preparing other things for the day.
The smith goes off to his steel rack and chooses the piece he wants to use for the project he has in mind.
Cutting the steel to the length he needs, he returns to the forge.
With the steel, he pokes a hole in the side of the fire, for the coal likes to clump together as it burns.
He pushes the steel in, leaning it on the edge of the forge.
The smith cranks the blower so as to keep the fire hot and transfer the heat to the steel better.
When the steel is up to the color he wants, the smith takes it out and starts to hammer.
The anvil rings in the cool morning air.
